NIAGARA POWER CORRIDOR

PROJECT SUMMARY

The Niagara Power Corridor (“NPC”) is an ~18 km, 230 kV transmission line and that will run along the east side of the Welland Canal in the Niagara Region of Ontario, extending from Thorold to Port Colborne. The genesis of the NPC was to address a critical power need for Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada Corporation (AK), that could not be satisfied by the incumbent transmission provider in the Province.

Additionally, the NPC is uniquely positioned to support the significant economic growth taking place in the South Niagara Region and enhance power availability within an accelerated timeline.

THE IMPACT

The South Niagara region is experiencing strong and growing demand for industrial-scale power, and the Niagara Power Corridor is being developed to address this critical need. Initially, the transmission line will deliver 118 MW of power to the Asahi Kasei site, with additional capacity available for future expansion to meet the medium and long-term power needs of the region.

This project lays the foundation for sustained industrial growth and investment in the City of Port Colborne and the wider Niagara Region. It represents a key piece of infrastructure necessary to support the long-term economic prosperity of the area, enabling industrial expansion and fostering job creation.

The NPC project is uniquely positioned to deliver power to the Asahi Kasei site within the required timelines, two years faster than current alternatives. By accelerating access to reliable power, this project directly supports significant economic growth and strengthens the region’s potential for industrial development.
