Looking Back: Developing the Thorold Data Centre

We are proud to share a look back at one of Red Jar’s most impactful infrastructure projects - a 100,000 square ft. high-uptime non-critical data centre purpose-built for bitcoin mining.
✅ Over 20,000 mining machines
✅ Operating at 80MW, with approvals in place for 146MW
✅ Grid-responsive, energy-efficient design
✅ Delivered in late 2021; sold to a strategic buyer in May 2024
The Red Jar team took a site with aging electrical infrastructure and transformed it into a high-performance, grid-integrated facility, leveraging real-time energy management, recycled energy assets, and advanced controls. This project created local jobs, generated new energy revenues, and showed how private infrastructure can support broader energy and sustainability goals.
We’re continuing to support the facility’s future growth and helping identify new opportunities across the region.
